Soldiers’ Monument Memorial Program 6/08

A Memorial Program, honoring Ce-dar county’s war dead, and especially the 3 men who have lost their lives in Operation Iraqi Freedom, will be held at Monument Square this Saturday, June 21, beginning at 1 p.m.
The public is invited to attend the program, which is sponsored by the Soldiers’ Monument Association of Ce-dar County.

Smoke Bomb Ignites Body Shop Fire

A fire at Stiff’s Body Shop in Tipton that caused an estimated $50,000 to $100,000 Saturday night, May 31, was caused by a smoke bomb ignited by 5 male juveniles, according to Police Chief Roger Hakeman.
The fire completely destroyed the paint room at the body shop, located at 401 West 4th Street.

RAGBRAI Entertainment Lineup Announced

The RAGBRAI Entertainment committee has announced the final act selected for the main stage entertainment line up. Super Size 7, from the Cedar Rapids area, will be kicking off the main stage show at 4 p.m. Friday, July 25.

CC Stoplight Players Seek Writers

The Cedar County Stoplight Players are planning a Fall Showcase of Theatre and are seeking submissions from playwrights in and around Cedar county. The showcase will consist of several one-act short plays performed with minimal setting, lights and props.

Local high school musicians Jason and Andrea Brown, Andrea Cady, Melanie Connelly, Amanda Davis, McKenzie Donohoe, Kaitlyn Gilbert, Kristina Goemaat, Jayln Havill, Allison Kilburg, Emily Leff, Shelly Martin, Mat-tea Meixner, Becki Odeen and Miranda Wehde from Tipton will tour Europe with the Iowa Ambassadors of Music (IAM) July 3 to 18. Andy and Bridget Owen, Thad and Jill Wilkins, and Molly Phelan are Tipton music teachers of IAM and will serve as advisors on the tour.

Herbert Hoover Presidential Museum Presents Iowa’s First Ladies

The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library will host the conference “Iowa’s First Ladies/First Ladies of Iowa” from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, June 7. The conference will feature a panel of Iowa’s First Ladies discussing their activities and the causes they championed. Mari Culver, Billie Ray and Christie Vilsack will speak on the changing role of First Lady of Iowa.
