MT. VERNON The first time around, Tipton shocked Mount Vernon in how they played. Last week when the two teams got together again, the Mustangs got some revenge. Ive not watch the movie A River Runs Through It, but I thought that the title was fitting for what life in Cedar County has been like the last 4-5 days. The Cedar River runs through it, which would be Cedar County. The Cedar River comes into the county northwest of Cedar Bluff and runs out almost straight south of Rochester. LOWDEN The North Cedar softball team picked up a big win over Preston last week in Big East Conference play. With rain and then flooding postponing area baseball and softball schedules, North Cedar played just one game last week, a 3-1 win over Preston.

DAVENPORT Wilton had a good two-day stretch at the annual Brian Erbe Davenport West softball Invitational. The Beavers beat ranked Muscatine and Bettendorf while getting the experience of playing Pleasant Valley and West Des Moines Valley. DAVENPORT For the second time in as many nights the Wilton baseball team played a MAC school, this time Davenport Central, the class 4A state runner up a year ago, at Brady Street Stadium. Wilton trailed the whole game with Davenport Central the whole game before falling 4-3 in non-conference action. TIPTON Tipton hosted the 25th annual Tiger baseball tournament on May 31st. On a hot day, the Tiger bats heated up in their first round win over Lone Tree. WILTON Wilton capped off an amazing stretch last week with a doubleheader sweep of Mt. Vernon last Thursday. Wilton outscored their opponents 43-2 in four EIHC games during the week. Wilton beat the Mustangs 10-1 and 11-1. |
