Curtis Ketelsen

Funeral services for Curtis Eric Henry Ketelsen, 80, Davenport, were held Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Davenport. Cremation rites were accorded and burial will be at a later date in Oakdale cemetery, Wilton.

Mr. Ketelsen died Feb. 9 at his home.

The son of Arnold and Clara Almandinger Ketelsen, he was born Jan. 7, 1936 in Muscatine. He married Nora Jean Howard in 1961 and later was divorced. He graduated from the Lutheran School for the Deaf in Detroit, Mich.

He was the past president of the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf and held office with the Quad Cities Silent Club and East Iowa Lutheran Church of the Deaf. In 1970 he was listed as one of America’s outstanding young men.

Mr. Ketelsen was a passionate Iowa Hawkeye fan and he enjoyed his family and many friends. His sense of humor will be truly missed.

He was employed as a linotype operator at the Times Democrat in Davenport and later as an aviation technologist with John Deere Aviation, retiring with 35 years of service.

Mr. Ketelsen is survived by a son, Johnny E. Ketelsen, Oelwein; a granddaughter, Jessica Rupright, Oelwein; brothers, William (Janet) Ketelsen, Durant; and Edward (Margaret) Ketelsen, Tipton; a sister, Arvella (Eldon) Pewe, Dixon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Don, Carl and Delbert Ketelsen; a foster brother, Daryl King; and sisters, Deloris Spengler and Dorothy Scharff.

Memorials may be made to the Word of God Lutheran Church for the Deaf.
